On The Road
I’m headed to New Mexico! I’ve been on the road for two days now. Leaving the DC metro area in my wake. It’s a bit sad to leave the friends I’ve made in the area but I’m sure I’ll be seeing them all again in the not too distant future. DC has been a great place where I’ve had a lot of fun times and met many good people over the last year or so. I could absolutely see myself going back to DC. If only the damn housing costs would go down! I think we might see pigs fly before that happens sadly. I’ve discovered that when driving across country it can either be hell watching the time tick by or you can get in a zone and just go for it. I started off listening to music, but when you’re driving in a car for about 10 hours a day… at least if you’re like me… you run through your music playlists pretty damn quick. I resorted to Spotify playlists but even those after 10 hours I had made it through the entire playlist. Then today I decided to listen to a “book on tape”. I’m not even sure what to call it anymore, that’s just what I call it because I’m used to the old days when you would go to the public library and pick out a book that had been recorded on cassette tapes. Because you know, it was the newest thing having a cassette player in your car back in the day! Then you got to turn over each tape about every hour or two and then fish through the many tapes you had after you finished each one to listen to your entire book! Gosh what a hassle that was. Now, I just download a convenient file onto my phone and listen to a book straight through. SO much simpler! Probably causes less accidents by allowing the driver to keep their eyes on the road too.
Anyways! I think I’ve decided that Audible is my new best friend and travel companion for these possibly frequent cross country trips I’m going to be making. I chose a book I’ve been wanting to read for a while now and with one simple click and an acceptable fee I now have the book on my phone and playing through my car speakers! Or maybe the books in the cloud… I don’t know. Either way, it worked wonders today! I popped that book on listened away and the time flew by. I wasn’t watching the clock every hour agonizing over every minute of the trip and mile I covered that day. Before I knew it I was in Atlanta, my destination for the night! If you know me well, you know I’m a total dork when it comes to ready fiction books. I’ll devour anything along the lines of Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, or Game of Thrones. If you’re a fan of epic fantasy get at me for all your book recommendations and I’ll point you in the right direction.
